About Laverton

Nestled in the far Northern Goldfields of Western Australia, Laverton is a small town with many hidden surprises. Laverton is located 370km northeast of Kalgoorlie and 950 km east-northeast of Perth. It lies at the western edge of the Great Victorian Desert and is also the starting point for the Anne Beadell Highway, which leads to Coober Pedy in South Australia. With ongoing mining exploration and the expansion of existing mines in the Laverton area, the population has risen to just over 1000. About a third of the population is of Aboriginal descent.

The area is semi-arid, with an average annual rainfall of about 230mm. Daily maximum temperatures range from 17 degrees in July to 36 degrees in January.
