    Time to reply to a job advert is determined by the hiring manager, and in most cases applicants have 2 weeks from the date the position is advertised to submit their application. This varies, so please check the job advertisement.

    We aim to move the process along as quickly as possible. It can, however, take up to 6 weeks to let applicants know if they have been shortlisted for further assessment.

    After further assessments are completed, you should be notified of the outcome within 2 weeks.

Application process tips

  • Thoroughly read the advertisement and Job Description Form (JDF) before writing your application

    Take the time to understand exactly what the Department expects from applicants and don’t ignore the detailed description of what the job entails. Pay close attention to what is to be submitted as part of your application – sometimes, you will submit a CV and a covering letter; other times you may be asked to complete a task.

    Assessment will be done against the Work Related Requirements (skills, knowledge and abilities required to undertake the role), it is up to you to ensure that you have provided sufficient information to convince the panel that you meet these.

  • Make sure that you’re eligible to apply for the role

    Do you have the required qualifications to do the job? Do you have the relevant visas that allow you to live and work in Australia?

  • Call the contact person listed on the advert

    Clarify any elements of the job description or conditions that you’re uncertain about before applying.

  • Double-check your application

    Proof reading your application before applying is essential – this is your opportunity to make a great first impression. Make sure that you have supplied all required documents, and that you have followed any instructions stated in the advertisement.

  • Submit your application before the application closing date and time

    It is your responsibility to ensure that your full application is submitted on the date and by the time indicated on the advertisement. You are encouraged to start your application early, and to contact the Recruitment team should you experience difficulty with our online application system.
